Rockwell Collins HGS-5600E selected for Embraer Lineage 1000
Orlando, Fla. (October 05, 2008) - Rockwell Collins announced that its Model 5600E Head-Up Guidance System (HGS®), featuring Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) technology, has been selected for the Embraer Lineage 1000 aircraft.
The HGS-5600E system is a derivative version of the Model HGS-5600, which is already certified for Cat III/ Low Visibility
Take Off (LVTO) capability on the Embraer 170, as well as on the Embraer 190 aircraft.
"Embraer has long understood the increased operational efficiency and enhanced situational awareness that our proven HGS offers,"
said Dave Austin, senior director, HGS for Rockwell Collins. "We're pleased to continue our strong relationship with Embraer,
and we look forward to our work together to certify the HGS-5600E system on the Lineage 1000."
"We are certain that the Rockwell Collins Head-up Guidance System is the perfect match to the Lineage 1000's Enhanced Vision
System", said Henrique Langenegger, vice president, Programs - Executive Jets for Embraer. "The combination will provide
our customers with easier operation and reduced pilot workload."
The LCD projection technology in the HGS-5600E system features improved brightness and image resolution for enhanced vision
displays; a digital display interface that eases the integration of future flight deck technology; and the capability to seamlessly
integrate multiple image sources while maintaining a clear view of the primary flight symbology. It also allows for the future
development of hybrid solutions that utilize the best feature of evolving imaging technologies.
The HGS displays inertial flight path information to the pilot that conforms to the outside world. This provides important
energy management advantages that allow for optimal performance during approach and landing. Further, the inertial flight
path information aids in wind shear situations, during engine failures, and in "black hole" approaches to airports with minimal
navigation aids.
